NSC Olimpiyskiy grass keeper: Pitch is in its optimal conditions for this period

The head grass keeper of the NSC Olimpiyskiy, Maxim Stelmakh, told to MGU channel about the state of the Olimpiyskiy pitch the day before the UEFA Europa League round of 16 second leg match of Dynamo Kyiv and Chelsea

I can say the pitch is not in its perfect condition. That was affected by long autumn-winter period and matches of Vorskla, Shakhtar and Dynamo in UEL and UCL. The difficulty was not only in  the schedule when the teams played at the stadium one after another, but also because of the weather conditions. Snow had to be removed with the help of machines.

We had a break, but that is not the same as a summer break. Therefore, in early February, we began to restore the surface activly. A lot of work was carried out: aeration, fertilizer and seed application. Even now, right after the training, we are repairing the pitch and see that there are no deep boots traces damaged spots or holes. This means that the grass is quite stable, it does not break. It might be not perfect, but it is flat. The pitch is in its optimal conditions, and it is ready to hold a hight level match - Max Stelmach said.

Our winters put a lot of pressure on the surface. I know the condition of the pitch could be muct worse, but only visually. We make ideal all the the physical qualities of the grass to make it safe for players. We do watering, rolling to make it flt. All these procedures are performed daily and will do the same tomorrow. Our main task is to make the pitch good for players and bright for TV-picture, - the grass keeper of the Olimpiysky National Sports Complex said.
